I have and Mx-980, MSC-400 using CCP. I cant seem to get the RF portion of the remote to work. I have no activity registering at the RF-250 or the MSC-400. I have gone and changed the output to RF in the software, down loaded, and nothing.

My process of elimination is: IR commands no longer work when its changed to RF,IR commands begin to work when changed to RF/IR.

it would seem that the RF portion of my remote is dead, unless I am missing something in the software.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Did you change the RF channel from 0 to something else?  do you have them both set the same?

I did check the RF channel, but I was more concerned about the fact that the RFX250 showed no RF activity at all. Now as a litmus test, I held the antenna near a flourescent light, and the light went nuts, so I am sure it works.

Unless I am mistaken, the light on the 250 box should flicker whether or not the channel is set correctly. Am I mistaken?

Your assumption is almost correct. If your processor is still on ID 0 the RFX-250 will respond no matter what ID the remote is set to, but if the processor is set to 1-f and your remote is still set to 0 or another ID other than the one the processor is the RFX-250 will show no activity at all. You didnt really clarify if both devices were set to the same ID so my advice is to check that they are both the same. Hope this helps. Andrew

Make sure the Antenna on the MSC400 is plugged into the right spot (I did this the other day). Also, make sure you have the base station set to the MSC400, and output set to RF. Change RF ID to 1

Only one antenna, and the jack is fully plugged in? Make sure the RF ID is other than zero as previously stated.

In addition, I would double check all the wiring to the connector on the MSC-400. If the wiring is correct, walk back through the programming guide for setting up the 400. There's a couple of places where you need to set it on RF.

was the remote dropped? does it rattle when you shake it? the internal antenna is sensitive to sudden g-force changes ie hitting the floor, moving like a wiimote..
this would be unfortunate if this is true, however, URC will flat rate give you a new one for $100 if you ship them the broken one

Here is what I checked:
went into the 980 and set the default base station to be the MSC400. I didn't see where you set the RF ID, so I have to assume that this setting is it. (yes, I know, I shouldn't ass u me)
set all my devices to RF output
Assigned the IR port to all; didn't want to make the mistake of having the wrong port installed.

Went into my 400 and set the RF ID to 2, and unchecked the second RF IF, not using it. set port to all.

downloaded and tested, no activity at 250.

I hate to be a PIA but I just want to be sure before I send it back for repair. not sure what turn around time is.

Thanks in advance..

You downloaded to BOTH the 400 and the 980 correct? I've made that mistake before.

Yep, I have made that mistake also, take everything but the last step. I even went as far to use the MX editor for the 980 so I can see the RF ID set.

It seem that you can acutally see the RF ID that is set when using CCP to program the 980, just the default base station that is attached to it.

I appreciate all the help from all replies!

One thing to double check is that you are using the newest CCP update, there was a brief period in october and november where a bug in CCP update deactivated the RF on MX980's (possibly all remotes), but has since been remedied.

Did you set the MX-980 to output in RF? I have all of my settings to IR & RF.
