I don't have a Uverse box so I cannot say for sure but I suspect they mean to send "select", then pause, the send "power". Essentially, select does nothing if the box is already on and turns it on if it is off. When the box is on "power" shuts it off.

That being said, I would agree with others that you will be much happier if you just leave it on.

It does "sleep" after long periods of inactivity, so SELECT wakes it up.

Why bother turning it off?? No need.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

This is the third thread you've started this afternoon.   Do a search.  This forum is a wealth of info, you just have to look for it.

Agreed.

Figure it out.

Instead of asking me why my price is high ask the other guys why they are low.

I came up with a work around for the missing on/off discretes for Uverse. As mentioned, the power command is a toggle, so you can never be sure if the unit is on or off when issuing power on or off macros. The trick is to get the power command to work as an off only. I accomplished this by putting "OK" in my turn off macro followed by "Power". I put just the "OK" in my power on macro. These work because "OK" will turn on the unit if it is off, but does nothing if it is on. The power off works because I first issue an "OK", which ensures the device is on, then I issue the "Power" to toggle it off.

BTW, did anyone notice that the U-verse box, at least my Cisco box, does not actually turn off. All it does is put a screen saver up reminding you to press "OK" to restore the picture. This defeats the option of using a video sensor for the MSC-400. It seems there is little value to turning it "off".

I wouldn't worry about turning it off either. Just issue the "ok" command to wake it up when needed.

I used to turn charter boxes on and off with the known workaround, but at times it wouldn't work (never 100%). Now we just leave them on. After doing some testing, we found if the box is on and if you lose power, it powers right back up. Maybe the Uverse box will do the same.

Just noticed this is an old thread..... IT'S ALIVE!!!!

yea, as others said, just use "ok" as a discrete power on... but in my current projects that Ive been programming for others, I dont program cable power functions into the remote, and the client just leaves the box on. as someone else stated, the video sensors dont work either for the cable box and there is no discrete power off. in my opinion, its better to just leave the junk box on.
