The transporter gives you quick access to device buttons for your existing devices(another way to navigate when creating alias's). It comes in handy when you have a MSC-400 in the loop.

It's a key part of the KP 4000/MRX-1 combo. Have been using this function on the MSC 400 installations. BTW, if you have recently updated your CCP you will need to save your previous version files in the new CCP before the transport function will work.

...and, in theory, the transporter is where you'll be able to transport a config from one style of remote to the other, making it very easy to recreate your work (macros and all) on every model supported by CCP...

Is anyone using the transporter? How do you use it? Two years later, I was trying to copy a device from one remote to another in the same house.

Transporter should be called Importer. You can use it to import devices from other CCP remote files. It has a project file browser function and a device-within-the-project browser function and it will import a device from a different model into the current one you're programming.
I've never seen macros move from one model to another or even be preserved between the same model. I use it to move my custom devices from a MX980 file I called "Library" into whatever project I'm programming for.
I don't think there was ever any documentation for it and I don't know if the tool was ever actually finished, vis a vis macro transporting.
