I am strongly considering purchasing a MX-450. However, I am not 100% sure whether or not I need my local installer to perform firmware updates and to create archives. If that is the case, the remote will definitely be removed from my list.

I am able to download the archiver software from URC's webpage and it looks as though it downloads updates.

Is there something that only dealers can do? It appears that the end user can now do everything. Am I correct? If so, when was this restriction lifted?

Thanks.

It's really pretty easy to program. We also provide software to our customers. If that is an issue, I would be happy to help you.

Hello Damon,

Thanks for the offer - hopefully I wont have to take you up on it.

The programming part is not really my concern - I am a long term MX-500 user and I have heard the programming steps are similar.

I just want to have access to firmware updates and the ability to archive what I have programmed in my own house.

Thanks again.

The MX-450 is actually much easier to program than the MX-500. I've programmed a few recently and they were a pleasure.

The software is necessary for archiving and firmware updates. It is not included in the box. It can only be provided by a dealer.

Let me know if I can be of service.

Thank you,

Hello Damon,

Sorry for my ignorance. The software I can download right off of universalremote.com appears to allow for archival and LiveUpdate. What am I missing from the "dealer-only" version?

BTW, if I buy the remote, it will be from an authorized retailer.

Thanks again.

Live Update was supposedly disabled on versions of the Editor programs download through URC by an end user. Whether it works as it should, I don't know. Maybe URC decided to keep that function on the MX-450 software. They are the only ones who can answer that for certain. You may want to call them directly at (914) 835-4484.

I have the MX450 (bought from Amazon...the authorized internet reseller) and I downloaded the archiver software from the URC site. The Live update feature works fine...I have updated the database/firmware twice since I purchased it in September. You can create your own archives with the software as well.

Thanks for response. This is how it appears to me as well.

Interestingly, I contacted URC tech support and their response was that the software is only available to custom installers. Apparently, they do not realize the software is on their web page for download!
