I think someone must have spilt something on my MX980 because some of the buttons are sticking. I searched this forum and it looks as if Iso alcohol is the way to clean it after removing the batteries. I called my dealer to ask how the case splits, as I don’t want to destroy it, and was told they will not give me any recommendations and to call URC. URC, of course, wants me to send it to them for repair. After paying FedEx air back and forth and the paying URC, I might as well buy another remote……..

Anyone know where the magic pry spots are on this thing?

Thanks…….

If you search there are a couple of threads on how to open similar units. You twist them along the length untill one of the catches releases then use a very small screwdriver to finish the job (at each catch). I did this once with a MX-700 and it worked, but I ended up damaging the case (not bad, but there you are). It's very scary (you would be surprised the amount of pressure required) and I suspect the odds of damaging the unit are very high (fragile plastic etc). Do at your own risk... These were probably not designed to be repaired (or they assume the case is a throwaway and don't worry about it). Be sure it's completely dry before inserting the battery. I suspect URC would be sending you a new one (probably cheaper) as a replacement.

Please note: On my 980 it feels like there are two screws which would have to be removed first. One in the battery compartment and one behind the display. Both are under labels but you can feel the holes underneath!

Good luck.

Hey mdrew, Did you ever get your mx980 open without any problems? I had the same thing happen to mine and have been looking for the key to opening it up.

I believe they will ship a brand new remote for the replacement cost of about $100, so the comment about the cost of repairing the remote doesn't add up unless there is a policy that doesn't apply to you.

Is the remote still under warranty?
