Hello to all I am new here so please bear with me. I recently received my MX-810 and as I go through the wizard to setup with my Yamaha RX-V3800 AV Receiver there are multiple code labels to choose from for just the single receiver. I was curious if someone had any input to help with the selection and setup of this remote/receiver combination. Thank you in advance.

I used that originally and didn't have complete function of the Receiver. I am still at a loss here. Is there some sort of tutorial or step-by-step instructions I can go by to get more functionality of the 810

What specific functions are you looking for?

Well I noticed when I setup with the "main" codes that I cannot access my "PC/MCX" section on my receiver which is the part where I can access my mp3 files through my Receiver. So then I tried to install the "Net" codes that were in the 810 Wizard but then I lose functions like Volume:( I would like to be able to use my Receiver like I was using the OEM Remote. But it seems that I am over looking something someway. I don't mind programming every button manually however I am not sure how to do that either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again in advance.

First, add both devices to your remote.
Then go into tune-up->copy a command....
Then just copy the buttons you want from one into the other.

So I add 2 receivers to the remote 1="Main" and 2="Net" then edit all the buttons into 1 reciever?

Yep, if there is not enough room you can remove some of the ones you won't use.

np...one other piece of advice.

Make sure all your devices are setup exactly the way you want them before you start creating activities.

I am more lost than ever:( I don't see how there is 7 different codes for 1 Receiver. I have tried copying over buttons but there are way more functions that are misplaced through different codes. Is it possible to combine all the codes into 1 file?

Unfortunately (as you are learning) the 810 is a limited and challenging remote to 'customize' due to the software. Trick number one is to learn in the codes you want to use from your oem remotes rather then messing with multiple databases and then try to create the pages you want using 1 device. If there are specific codes that you want to use that your oem remote doesnt have getting an inexpensive learning remote to work with can be very helpful (and MUCH easier then the copy and paste recommended)...that said there is another trick where by you create your primary control profile (file), save it, email it to yourself...download and save under a different name; open it add all the random devices you want to it, save it and close it. open the other file and use the universal browser feature and open the 'other-demo/extra device' file and drag and drop codes to the button location (or macro areas) you want.

and spend the next 10days fighting with it. otherwise I'd recommend seeing if you can still return it and upgrade to the 880 or 980 and pay for programming (or negotiate to where the seller will give you a copy of the software to program it). You'll thank yourself a little bit in the short run, emensly in the long run.

Also note that once you set up devices...you need to do it all over again for the activities as the lcd pages are mostly independant.

I would try starting with the "Main" code. It should have all the hard buttons correct. You should be just missing a few functions. From there figure out what specific things are missing and then either copy them in form other devices or just use the learning function to learn them.

I am confused, why would you email it to yourself? If you want to work with codes in your current file in the universal browser you can just save and open it up in the browser. I don't think it needs to have a different name.

But won't he have the same problem with an mx-880? That being that the code database has multiple specialized devices for his receiver. Either way he is going to have to combine the devices. It may be done more efficiently in the other editors but the general concept is still the same.

Plus, in the mx-880 he is going to lose power state tracking and the help menu. I certainly understand why someone who had to program these one a regular basis would not want to use the MX-810 software but really it is pretty nice for someone who wants a wizard based approach and has a fairly simple setup.

I would much rather be using a wizard then trying to piece this together without one.

My main problem is why would there muliple entries for any receiver? There are multiples of others too.

Only way I can see this working is loading all of the entries and making activities to make them all work together however taking the above quote into consideration I don't see myself getting the device setup the way I want it :(

That would be essentially the same thing as combining them together beforehand.

Given where you are now, here is what I would try next.

Start with the "MAIN" device
Next make a list of all the functions that are on your original remote that are NOT in the main device
Then simply learn those functions into the soft buttons(the ones on the LCD) of the MX-810

Here are the steps to learn the extra codes.
1. First go into tune up->relabel or rearrange screen buttons
2. Add buttons for all the functions on you missing list.
3. Next go into tune up->learn new commands from any remote control
4. Now click on each of the soft buttons you added in step 2 and learn it from the original remote.
