Update: I did this several months ago and the conductive paint has flaked off of several buttons now. Eventually, this ended up being a major pain as conductive paint flakes have scattered onto sensors, resulting in buttons being 'stuck'. I'm back to where I started, trying to find another conductive glue that will stick permanently. Either that, or trying to connect URC to see if I can get a replacement.

Called URC and they agreed to fix my remote for free, even after I admitted trying to open it up and fix it myself. It really is a Mfg defect and they should fix it. I would imagine everyone who has the remote will run into this problem eventually, glad to see URC standing behind their product.

Brimorga, how old was your remote? I assume out of warranty? What did you say to urc support that helped your case?

I was thinking a 2 part conductive epoxy would work better for a longer term solution than paint. Something like this:

OK, so the frustration returns. I've disassembled and treated the buttons 3 times in the last few months. Absolutely works GREAT for a week or two, then back to the unresponsive buttons.

I'm going to try contacting URC...Lets hope my luck goes as well as brimorga

Very imaginative fix. How long did the fix hold up? My MX-900 gets a tremendous amount of use.

Yeah, that's what I was eluding to in my post back on page #1:

If you've simply worn out the carbon coating on the buttons, there are some repair kits for those, but I haven't had much luck with them.

I used a different product, so maybe there's something out there that will work, but IMO the problem is getting the conductive ink to stick to slick rubber. It will dry and affix itself, but it doesn't really want to stay affixed and eventually starts flaking off. Might have only lasted a week or two, and things can actually get worse because the flakes can cause shorts, stuck buttons, or potentially worse.

On the bright side, when you realize it won't work, it's pretty easy to wipe the old ink off - which is rather the problem.

I have the same problem with the paint failing after a few months. Radio shack has a circuit writer pen that I plan on trying next. Has anyone tried anything else that works longer?

For a (more) permanent repair, you need to use a solution which is more pliable when it dries. Rear windows don't flex, so the demister repair doesn't need to.

There's a specific epoxy-type compound for this type of repair - try googling "Rubber Keypad Repair Kit" - or the part number "CW2605".

There's a lengthy post here: [Link: sandman.com] which talks about the issue (relating to electronics with membrane keypads in general).

Mine quit working again, so I called URC. Since the first time I called, they've expanded the scope for the free repair option and my serial number is now covered :) They said they replace the entire lower keypad.
