I have never used vairables with URC and am re programming a MX950 right now. Does the variable control work similiar to flags on RTI or is that what If/Else is.
My problem, Sony DVD-RW/VCR Combo recorder, doesn't have discrete power and can't find work around. Yes I've tried play and every other button, nothing will turn the unit on except for power.
So a flag system would be great here. Ideas?

Tweeter -
Thanks for the reply, it makes sense, except I don't see where I tell it to check to variable? I think I'm so used to RTI flags, that I'm not thinking about it quite right.
I also don't see a Variable Tab? Perhaps I misunderstood.
This is an MX950 and MRF350, I'm just updating the programming with some new equipment and trying to improve on some old programming.
So in my macro, I insert Variable - VCR Power =0
But How do i have it checked?/

Cory the tabs are at the bottom of the macro window. Drop down box labeled Type, choose Variable. Create the variable macros I outlined in the message on hidden pages and that should work. Then reference those variable macros to your System ON, OFF and source select as you see fit.

It's really worth noting that variables won't solve the lack of a discrete power command. It will work for a while, but the first time there's a missed command (and trust me, it WILL happen), then On and OFF are out of sync, and your client is even more frustrated than having the device just stay on.
This was one of the main reasons behind the MSC-400: with it, you KNOW if the device is on or off.
What model is the device? It's a Sony, so there's still a good chance there's a discrete that will work from another code set.
Best regards, Dale

Thanks Dale, I made mention of that to Cory in my email. Stating either an MSC with power or video sensing would make this bulletproof. My dislike for variables for power tracking is pretty well known due to the probability of a user pressing the front panel or using the OEM remote and getting out of sync...because of this I recommended using a repair page to get back on track, not ideal by any means. Can you shed any light onto this for him...I am not always the best at typing out what my brain thinks is easy. I'll send you the message I sent to him.

I hear you guys, trust me. THe MRF 350 is already there and doens't see a point in upgrading for one device that rarely gets used.
I just through a power on command at the top of the first page for that device.
Everything else is discrete and working flawlessly:
Sim2 D80 Panasoinc 32" LCD behind it Denon AVR3808 - Power on via source select works great Denon DVD2500 Sony VHS/DVD-RW Combo - can't find discrete or work around Directv HR23 Lutron Spacer
Also a Panasonic PVV462 VCR in the bedroom, again can't find a discrete or a work around.

cory if you like...send me the mx file, i'll add the stuff i was referring to and you can then look at it and see if it will be useful next time. but yeah sometimes a big old POWER button on the LCD gets you out the door and they are just as happy.
...or do you have the shits of URC already and going back to RTI :-)
