When the MX-810 wizard software is upgraded, I have seen a firmware update listing in the description of what is updated. Does the software automatically update the remote's firmware when "Send to Remote" is executed, or is there a separate procedure to update the remote's firmware? I am not having any specific problem with the remote, just curious.

Yes. Whenever there's a firmware update, it's updated in the remote when you download to it.
