I have an MX-810 and am trying to program the inputs for a Panasonic Plasma model TH-42PX80U TV. I use three inputs: TV, HDMI1 and Component1.

Is there a way I can program a single command to have the TV switch to the appropriate TV (cable), HDMI1, or Component1 input?

The MX-810 definition file for this TV only has "TV/Video" which brings up a menu and then I have to program arrows up or down and return to go to the proper input. That causes a pretty long delay and requires the right starting input to stay in sync.

Any help is appreciated.

Do you know how to use the universal browser of the 810? If so, here is one thing that you can try. If the HDMI input is input 4 on the Panasonic Then select the activity of the macro that you are trying to program and drag the codes one by one to the activity box.

To the macro drag "TV/Video" from the Panasonic codes
Then drag "4" from the Panasonic codes.
Add a .2 or .3 second delay between the codes.

That should work for you.

All Panasonics HDTV's use the same discrete hex for the inputs and power commands. With the 810, you will need to create buttons for the discrete inputs in the Tune Up menu. Then import the hex commands using the Browser.

The discrete hex is available here: [Link: remotecentral.com]

You may have to play to find which inputs coordinate with HDMI 1, 2, etc.

You will then need to adjust the way your TV handles inputs via the Tune Up menu (Tune Up > Solve Automated Activity > Change Input Management Method).

Then you will have to adjust your macros to accomodate for the added discretes.

A side note to the original author, I have sent you a Panasonic configuration file that will allow you to skip those steps by simply importing the device.

Thanks all. Using the Panasonic codes through the browser, I was able to get HDMI1 and Component1 working perfectly. I was not able to find a single command for the cable TV coax input. Please let me know if there is a single command for that. However, I input a "TV/Video" command, followed by a "1" command, which brings up the menu on screen and then selects the cable input. Not as elegant, but it works.

dsp81, I've been struggling with the same problem as the op. Would it be possible to get a copy of the Panny config file as well? Thanks.

I am more than willing to send you the files/upload them to the files section. However, perhaps describing how to fix these problems would be more instructive.

1. Open the ProWizard. Add a new device and locate the correct device in the database, as you normally would. Here, the TH-42PX80U (#524). Unless of course you've already done this, then skip to step 2.

2. Create an activity (you must do this to have access to the Browser). I prefer to create a single dummy activity, make changes to my devices, and return to create the activities I need. If the ProWizard asks you to identify the inputs, just select something and make it through (because it doesn't really matter). I do this because it is easier to make the activities rather than try to repair them.

3. Select Tune Up > Relable or rearrange screen buttons. Select the device and not the activity (If you select the activity, you will be frustrated). Add the buttons for the commands you need. IE, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3, etc. Rearrange until you like it. When you're done, go back to the main menu.

4. Now you need to find the discrete HEX to make your life complete. There are a few different ways to do this. First, check the Remote Central databases (Files > (One of the) Philips Pronto > Discrete Infrared Hex Codes > Panasonic, Link).

You can also search in the Discrete Code Hunter Forum (Search > 3. Search all message forums:, and search in Discrete Code Hunter). I searched for "Panasonic" and got these results: Link. Out of those, I looked through the first few and found this thread: Panasonic TH-50PZ85U plasma please..... In that post, there is a link to a Panasonic document that has all the codes we need: Link. Pay dirt.

If you are unable to find the HEX you need on Remote Central, you can always use Google. Search for things like "Panasonic discrete hex" or "Panasonic HDMI hex." You get the point.

5. Next, open the Browser. Select Devices. Select the device you need to fix. It is imperative that you select the device and not the activity (if you have already created the activities, that is). Many people have made changes to the activity. This does not work and will cause you headaches - so be warned.

Find the buttons you added to your device. Click on HDMI 1. Locate that code in the Panasonic document and copy it (Just a note, the PDF has a return at the end of every line, so paste into Notepad first and remove them so the string is all on a single line). Now paste the HEX into the Hex Editor. Click on the Drag button (cross-hair) and hold it. Now drag it over to the MX-810 Action List. Rinse and repeat.

Just a note, if you locate another WZR or supported file that has what you need, you can click Browse in the lower left-hand corner and open that file. Now locate the code you need in the Imported Tree View. Click on it in the Imported Action List and drag it to the MX-810 Action List.

When you finish, close the Browser.

6. Next, select Tune Up > Solve Automated Activity Problems > Change Input Management Method for a device with inputs. Select your device. Add your list of inputs (or update if you need to). Here we'll add HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3, etc. and click Next. Select A Button for Every Input and hit Next. Select the input in the box on the left and click on the remote button to which it corresponds. Do that for all your inputs. Click next. You can test all your inputs on this page. If they all work, hit passed automation test.

If you need to adjust activities you've already made, select the activity from the drop down, click Specify Input Changes for this Activity and click Next. Make the necessary changes.

If you listened to me and haven't created activities, go do that now.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I'll give it a try later. The problem I was running into was that for some reason, the buttons I created for HDMI1, COMPONENT1, etc... weren't showing up in the browser. Only the buttons that came from the database would appear. I'm at work at the moment, but when I get home I'll try your instructions step by step and see if I have better luck. Thanks!

It sounds like you were adjusting the buttons on the activities, not the devices. When you create an activity, the Wizard copies the device pages. You then have two separate copies of the pages. If you make a change to an activity, that does not propagate to the device. That is why I recommend creating one dummy activity, tweaking your devices, then create your activities. It saves a lot of duplicative work.

No, it was even more moronic than that. lol! I wasn't double-clicking on the device button to bring up its various pages. I was just single clicking on it. Out of frustation, I did a double (maybe triple or quadruple) click and there were the buttons I had created. doh! The 810's programming software has got me like this more times than I care to admit. Oh well, now I know. Thanks for your help and the great link for the hex codes.
