I've been researching the capabilities of the MSC-400 for a while now, but I still have a couple of questions around RS232:

- Is it possible to set a variable based on the response to a command sent over RS232 (for example: Send "INPUT?" device responds "10"), and then use if/else logic in macros with that variable?

- Is it possible to trigger macros from messages sent by a device over RS232 (ie, device sends "INPUTCHANGEDTO10" and smart macro "BluRayPwrOn" fires)

Thanks!

Neither. The rs232 on the msc-400 is not bidirectional. It can only send commands, it will not 'see' the response.

Not entirely correct. I don't believe URC has given the programmer (us) any access to the received serial data. However, it (the MSC-400) does know what it is. Go test a serial command in the editor. The response shows up there fine. I would love it if they would give us the capability to do at least some minimal things with the data (for instance wait until the response is given so we don't overrun an input). That being said, it is extremely difficult to allow for complete control using the received data, they would essentially have to give us a way to compile and download programs (and threads). That part I do for a living, so know it is way hard to do via a simple editor :-( (if you really want to emulate protocols - like repeats and such). It can be done, it's just not easy at all.

I didn't realize that! Very interesting.

Either way, even if it gets the answer, we can't use it right now :-(

Anyone know if bi-directional rs-232 is even being considered for the msc-400? promised?

Would be great.
