why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

This will happen if the device that the favorite channels alias is not present in the new file. Think about it...if in the old file the favorites were referencing a particular device (say cable box) and that device is not named or present in the new device, the favorite macro has nothing to reference (alias). Be sure to import both devices if you are creating a separate device for favorite or create a new device in the new file with the same name that will function as a reference for the favorites.

If you don't have the referenced device present in the new file you will get a message stating that the program is attempting to match those aliases. If you have a device already made that will control those button presses you can instruct the program where to look via the drop down list. Frankly it's easier to create Favs device from the beginning that contains the command sets for the cable/sat box within and referencing itslelf from the beginning but it sounds like you didn't do that so you can import both devices and it will work that way too.

So how exactly are you guys doing this? On the 980 I have been importing channel logos/macros as a fully functional DirecTV device. Basically, I stayed up all night and wrote macros for as DTV channels as possible, 33 pages in all. I figured one could have the freedom to delete pages and channels to taste.

If I rename the complete device it before importing it, I am able to have as many receivers in the program as I need, assign IR routing, and so on.

In your opinions, is this a practical model of how to organize and "cookie cut" remote configurations that are thorough and consistent? I can't recall getting much advice on large scale organization in trainings.

That's how I do it Freddy. As in the Favs device has digit commands that the macros point to within itself.
