Recently purchased an MX-810. Installed the software under XP and got the remote working great. Since then I've sold my xp desktop and replaced it with a vista laptop. Last night I downloaded and installed the MX-810 Prowizard and allowed it to update the software and drivers. Piece of cake.

So I proceeded to update my .wiz file - made some enhancements and proceeded to upload to my remote.

PROBLEM. NOTHING HAPPENED. GOT a message that said "UNABLE TO FIND MODEL ID".

I searched the boards and can't find any solution that has worked.

Is there someone that can help?

Here's what I tried:
- removed battery
- tried different usb ports
- tried different usb cables
- hit the silver button under the battery for 5 secs
- ensured the drivers were vista drivers
- did a reset of the remote. (which btw now left me remoteless until I get this resolved!!!!)

HELP PLEASE!

To get it to work in Vista I have to use a USB port on the PC itself (not through a hub) and need to run ProWizard as Administrator (right-click, "Run as Administrator").

Check and Check. USB is a direct connect to the PC and I run the software as Admin.

Only thing I did not do was install the software as admin. but not sure if that has anything to do with it.

You mentioned doing a reset. Did you do a factory reset by pressing and holding WATCH and Enter to go to the setup screen to erase and reset the remote? That usually solves the model ID problem.

I did that and still get the unable to find model ID.
This is extremely frustrating.

Any other thoughts?

Talked to someone at URC last night. Lady was very nice and told me upfront they don't support end users. I told her I understood and she walked me through several steps (all of which I had previously read on this board and tried). I played dumb just to see what they would do.

End result - No fix for the unable to find Model ID error. If it's not resolved by a hard reset (activities+ent) then she said it's likely an issue with the device. So since it was bought inside of the year warranty they are fixing it for free (minus shipping).

So all in all... not a terrible experience... just left my wife hanging with out any ability to control the devices (unless I'm present).... COULD BE MUCH WORSE! :>

hope this helps someone out there that is in the same boat as me.

I get that error almost all the time. It's all in the timing. If you plug it in and wait for the connection chime, then immediately press "send to remote". If you wait too long to hit the send button then it won't work.

the software is crap. i still haven't been able to have the remote turn on and off devices automatically in the activities or even switch inputs. I have to comepletely rebuild all the macros and make two more activities call "system on" and "system off".

I agee with the timing suggestion, this works for me too. Plug the remote in
to USB just a few seconds before hitting SEND. It may take a couple of tries.

My driver dropped once and I had to reload it, but otherwise the timing trick works for me.

I also agree with the timing issue. I received this remote from a friend and had the same issue with the model ID. Took me a few tries but if finally loaded!!

About time!!!
