I have a chance to buy an older used MX 3000 for about 300 bucks. It comes with all cables and charger but no software.

I have heard these are very hard to program,,true?

I have also found out I cannot get software because I have no idea who the original dealer was for registration.

Is this a learning remote? If so why can't I just get the commands from a new component via learning?

Any advice for a secound hand user?

Thanks in advance.

That's a good price if it works. You'll need a charging cradle if you don't have one.

As for the software, I suspect there are ways to get you the software you need.

There is a bit of a learning curve to programing these. You'll probably do like most and download some freebie templates for the graphics as creating your own is very time intensive, lots of good stuff out there and here at the forum.

Once you get the hang of programming, it's really pretty easy to do. All a GUI interface so you are not actually writing any code or anything. The software comes with a pdf manual, print it out and read it...makes good bathroom reading.

You can download the software (non-updatable) from URC's site with just the serial number.

If there is a serial number in the battery compartment, you can get the software. Go to URC's website, and all will be revealed to you.

Some would say yes, they are hard to program, others would say no, they are not. I would again suggest going to the URC website. Get the serial number of the unit from the person you will buy it from, and download the software and try it. I would suggest downloading the manual while you are at the URC website. It will teach you how to use the software.

I have also found out I cannot get software because I
have no idea who the original dealer was for registration.

I don't think this is the case, if the serial number is in the battery compartment. Note that some unauthorized dealers sell the remote, and try to keep URC from tracking the sale back to them, by removing serial numbers.

Read the manual grasshopper. All will be revealed.

It might seem repetitous... Go to the website, download the manual, download the software. Try out the software. If you have difficulty, then for you it is "difficult to program."

Thanks in advance.
