- Dual MSC400 setup in master/slave mode. - 2 RFX-250s, one on each end of the house (feeding both MSC400s). - MX-980 with nothing but triggers to msc400 based macros - Everything is controlled via rs232 from one of the MSC400s. Nothing is IR (remote or from the msc400). - There are no tracking variables on the remote or within the msc400 macros.
Problem is when the MX980 has been on the charger or has been in "sleep" mode for about 10 minutes or so, the triggers don't seem to be working UNTIL I execute the "OFF" button from one of the listen choices.
For example....take the 980 off of the charger, select "listen", select "Bathroom" as room choice, then select "FM Radio" as the source/choice. This button triggers a single msc400 macro to turn on the zone amp, select the right source input for that zone, turn on fm radio and then the remote page-flips to the fm radio controls. The MSC400s are not even seeing the RF signal (status light does not even blink). I can even hit the "listen" button again and repeat the process (bathroom, fm radio, etc). Same thing....the MSC400s are not even seeing the RF signal from the remote.
Now....here's where it starts to get a little strange. If I hit the OFF button in the FM Radio control page, the MSC400s see the signal (I see the status lights flashing), but obviously nothing is turned on, so it doesn't actually turn anything off at this point. This OFF button is triggering a single msc400 macro that turns off the zone amp and fm radio and then the remote page-flips back to the main "listen" page.
NOW.....here's where it gets REALLY strange. When I repeat the process (bathroom, fm radio), everything frickin works?! And everything continues to work just fine operating the zone's volume, fm radio, etc, etc, etc. I can even go to any other zone and any other source and everything works just fine. What the hell?!?!?!
At first, I thought maybe I had some tracking variables/flags not being cleared and the OFF was fixing that. But first of all, I'm not even tracking anything variable wise in the msc400s. 2nd, even if I was, the macro is on the msc400 so the remote would still have to send the trigger out to the msc400 and then the msc400 would be checking the variable.
And finally....if I put the mx980 back on the charger for say 10 minutes or so or let it "sleep" for 10 minutes or so and then remove it/wake it up.....I can replicate the same issue.
Very strange......any ideas? TIA....

Just a stab at it, but I'd dig into the 980 if I were you. If what you're saying is accurate, the 980 isn't sending commands until after a reset using the off FM command.
It doesn't make any sense that the MSC is ignoring a command that's actually being sent. Your indicator should flash during every interface. The signal isn't getting there. Sounds to me that the MSCs are working fine.
The fault is in the 980. What it could be...?....no clue. Sorry

....Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

Odd indeed.
Are these files that you've copied from another setup?
Have you tested with a different 980 and the same file to see if the problem is replicated? That would typically rule out the 980 being the issue if it occurs with the new remote.
Have you returned the current 980 to factory default and then reloaded the program?
I'd like to see both editor files, if you want me to take a look into it further AFTER you have tested another mx-980.

Update
Fresh (new) 980 acts the same way.
It seems to be related to msc400 macros that have nested msc400 smart macros in them. When I create the macro on the 980 and just include the command specific triggers from the msc400 smart macro for each rs232 command, everything works fine. But when I try to build and use the macro on the msc400 is when I see this funkiness. Also, when it doesn't work, I see the status on the master blink when it should be the slave blinking (in this specific case the devices being controlled are on the slave). I can then hit the OFF button, it flashes on the slave and then from then on, everything is sent to the slave and everything works......frickin strange....

Update...
This even happens without executing the off command. To get things working I just need to execute any command (vol+, -, ch up, ch dn, etc) and it then causes the "power on" msc400 macro to work. It just doesn't like executing to the slave initially after being asleep for 10 min or so....strange...
