Earlier today I reprogrammed a customer's MX850 and the customer called later today and said the remote is not controlling the Apple TV.

I took the codes right off the MX850 editor, any one have any issues so far with programming an Apple TV using the codes off the MX850 editor?

i havent had issues but i have an MX 980. keep in mind the apple TV has very limited commands so unless you populated the transport functions, all the commands may just be on the arrow keys and BACK or EXIT button.

I just learned codes into the MX850 with no issues.

No problems here either with the DB commands. Are you using an RF basestation? Might be an issue with emitter placement and/or output level.

I even called URC today and they had no idea why the issue. Thanks for the thoughts, here are my replys to all.

First, though, the customer is going to bring his Apple TV over next Monday and we are going to figure out if it is an issue with the remote or what and if we have to learn the commands into the MX850.

To the response, apple TV has very limited commands so unless you populated the transport functions, all the commands may just be on the arrow keys and BACK or EXIT button. There definitely are only a few commands, up, down, forward, backwards, menu, play/pause in the transport area, and up, down, forward, backwards in in the LCD area. Neither the transport keys or the transport functions work.

To the respone, No problems here either with the DB commands. Are you using an RF basestation? Might be an issue with emitter placement and/or output level. The MX850 is only being used IR, no emitter placement or output level issues.

To the response I just learned the codes in we plan on doing that early next week.

Thanks again for all the suggestions, I was hoping that someone would come up something that I was not aware of, but if not, great.

I truly appreciate the knowledge I get here at Remote Central.

I also found the database codes didnt work. I learned the commands from the Apple TV remote and they worked fine.

AppleTV let's you pair a remote to it. Go into the settings and unpair the remote that's there.

That's the only thing I could think of that would lock out the MX850.

FYI, aTV now has a feature that allows you to use ANY remote to operate it, and in doing so you actually get a few commands that werent previously available. namely, single commands for FF/RR (so no skipping when you didnt mean to), STOP, and 10second skip frwrd/rev commands.

this is the 1st component i've ever seen that actually learns IR FROM any remote and then recognizes the IR to whatever command you've assigned it to!

go into aTV settings/general/remotes/learn remote.

needless to say, they recommend using a remote that isnt in use already, so i simply used commands from a device i dont have, and programmed said commands into my MX-980.
