On the 6416 the user guide describes the ir port as:

IR – Enables QIP6xxx to control a VCR while recording a selected
program (not supported by all program guides)

On the 7200 the user guide simply describes it as:

IR remote input

Anyone know if this actually works with the MRF-350 or the MSC-400?

Sounds like a contradiction. The "enables" side sounds like IR output like a TiVo box used to control a VCR. The IR remote input is just the opposite. It can't be both an in and an out.

My take is that it's a capability but an unused option for 99-99/100ths of all cable companies.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I was informed that point is moot. The port is not active.

It stinks that one of the most heavily used components cannot be controlled by either rs-232 or an ir input.
