I'm trying to control an HP laptop (DV9500) using the MX-810. The laptop comes with a mini-remote, model RC1762302/00, HP SPS 435743-001. Says RC6 on the back.

I've tried every profile for every HP device and every device listed under Microsoft. PC doesn't respond for any of them.

I've also tried manually programming/learning buttons from the mini-remote to the MX-810--the interface indicates that it's correctly learning, but the PC doesn't respond properly (some key presses are multiplied, others don't work at all, and in most cases, the transmit icon at the top of the MX-810 stays lit for a strangely long time).

I'm not sure what else to try... is it possible that the IR signal of this remote is not compatible with the MX-810?

For reference, the closest I've seen in other forums is this post, but the person was trying to do the opposite--get the mini-remote to control some other IR receiver: [Link: thegreenbutton.com] ... folks seemed to indicate that the mini-remote was non-standard?
