I am a long time MX-500 user who just got an MX-900. I need a few discrete power codes, some of which I think will be easy and others I suspect don't exist.

Given the capabilities of the MX-900, I think I need ccf files for these things, or guidance as to where I can find them in the preprogramed IR database. Needless to say, even though all three of the devices below are in the DB, I found that the discrete codes they purport to come with don't work for me.

1) discrete Power On for a Samsung HLP4674W (easy I assume, but can't find it so far)

2) discrete Power On and Off for a Toshiba XA2 HD-DVD player (hard or non-existent I assume)

3 discrete Power On and Off for a Dish Network VIP722 HD-DVR (hard or non-existent I assume)

Thanks and apologies if these things are easy to find and I just don't know how.

Check the "Files" section here. I see at least one file for the XA2, one for the 622 (which may work with the 722) and one for the 4674. You should be able to bring in the codes with the Universal Browser.

Thanks.

Hadn't used the universal browser yet, but now that I'm messing with it, it seems pretty easy.

I'll have to try these codes when I get home and cross my fingers that they are better than the IR DB codes.

You can also try using URC codesets like [SAMSUNG 1], [SAMSUNG 2], and so on... instead of picking your codesets by model number. They are listed at the bottom of each list with larger numbers being for the newest equipment.

You can also mix it up by picking your codeset by model #, then using the IR navigator to manually add buttons like P-ON and P-OFF from different IR sets.

****One other thing to look out for as you get into this....If you have a piece of equipment that has discretes included on it's factory remote - Harman Kardon receivers for example - the URC database will not show the power discretes in the LCD section as "P-ON" and "P-OFF" as expected. Instead, they give you the discretes on the On/Off hard buttons and a "POWER" toggle in the LCD section.

Hi Jeff in Nebraska,

I have no problems with URC's On and OFF commands for the Dish 722.....they work as advertised for me. Is your receiver set to Remote address 1?

As far as the Toshiba HD DVD player you should be able to use the "play" command for Pwr ON. For OFF I've used "Play" followed by the "Pwr" command via a macro. You probably need to add a small delay between the two commands. I've done this for a Toshiba A-2.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
John

Haven't found one but usually use eject to turn it on and eject-power to turn it off.

If it is anything like my last several experiences with Toshiba DVD players and recorders it will be dead soon.

It is just so annoying when the drawer clanks against the glass door on the cabinet :^)

I always use Samsung 2007 discretes and have good success.

Good to know....hadn't thought about that. On the Dish VIP722 the "P-ON" and "P-OFF" are on Page 3 of the LCD section.

I found some CCF raw data that's suppose to be discrete for the Toshiba XA2.

0000 006D 0022 0002 0157 00AC 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0041 0015 0041 0015 0016 0015 0689 0157 0056 0015 0E94

Try the above for OFF. Use the Universal Browser option in your editor. Paste the above as Hex data. I did a quick and dirty on my 900 and it works for my Toshiba A2. :) If it works for you let me know, I also have what's suppose to be discrete ON

Have the discretes for 722 and XA2 working, though I think the XA2 command is actually "Play," which is slightly imperfect. If anyone can point me to a true Discrete On, I'd love to use that.

Shockingly, none of the suggested codes are working as a Discrete On for my Samsung HLP-4764W. I have tried the P-On in the IR DB for this exact set, the ones for 05-07 in the discrete codes set, and many others. I also tried a hex code emailed from my MX-900 dealer. So far I got nothin'.

Anyone have a code that they can confirm works for this set (or the 5674)? Anyone have more good guesses? I'll try anything at this point.

Thanks for all the replies.

Just tried these, they work.

For your TV Pwr ON try:

For the Samsung TV? I've got a few possibilities, exactly what Model do you have...what year was it made.

I should add that anyone can have the list I have. I'm pretty sure I learned this technique around here a few years back.

Go here and download the Sonance Navigator program.

[Link: sonance.com]

Go to the file section for RTI here on Remote Central and download the "megalist" device collection file. v.16 It's a .cml file.

Unzip every thing and install Navigator. In Navigator select IR Library Manager, it's under Library on the menu bar. In IR Library Manager select File|Open and point it to your unzipped Megalist.

You now have an IR database for a bazillion devices. You'll see a tree view on the left by company. Under Samsung for example there are listings for TV's, DLP, HD TVs, Separate discrete codes, etc. So for Samsung TV's there are quite a few possibilities for IR codes.

Once you select a code, you can select the HEX view to see the raw data.

I've used this database often.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

The Discrete On for the XA2 is working like a charm (without sending a Play command). The Discrete On for the TV is not working, but I'll try the RTI suggestion from your post below.

FYI, I have an HLP-4674W from some time in 04 (I think).
