Hi.
I have just purhased the new MX-880 remote and I really like this product. I am coming from a Philips TSU 3000 - the MX-880 is far superior.
I have Uploaded the latest Software, firmware, and Universal data: 1.00.109 Firmware 1.05 IR Database 1.85
and have found some (dare I say) bugs. The major problem is that whenever I add new edit buttons for any device, I lose ALL my variables. It's like a pointer to a variable table is zapped.
I then have to retype those macros that used variables. I sent an email to the Powers That Be, and they said they would pass it on to the tech boys.
Has anyone experienced this problem? How will I know if and when an update to the Editor has been made?
Thanks,
MG.....

Yeah, I have experienced the exact same problem and mentioned it in one of the threads here.
Even worse, I downloaded an update to my 880 software tonight, and now I can't upload to my remote (using Vista). The editor crashes every time.
I'm installing the software to my wife's XP laptop to double-check, but I'm quickly going from a massive cheerleader for URC in our company to another disgruntled user that will urge our installs towards RTI.
Does URC have any idea how bad this is for business?

Thanks fellow disgruntled user. The problem is that the remote is really good, and URC knows it. I am not about to chuck it - I just chucked (literally) my Philips TSU 3000.
They (URC) just have to put a little thought here. I go to their site to download the latest updates - but the site doesn't say what revs you are about to update. It just goes ahead and does the update (some 10 minutes on my machine) - when I check the rev, it has just downloaded exactly what I already had. Why not just post what revs are to be downloaded, and ask if you want to continue....? And how about a revision history.
So let's assume that URC fixes the "lost variables" bug. How will I know? Do I just periodically try another download and hope that I am not duplicating what I already have. Kinda weird.
I am trying a workaround - but it is difficult. If I merely go to the "Edit Buttons" page and just hit a carriage return to terminate, the variables are lost. Hitting a carriage return appears to be the only way to save any changes to the "Edit Buttons" page. So how do I add more buttons? I know, add them and re-type all the macros that have variable in them........
URC MX-880- Harware: excellent Software: needs work Support/Customer Relations: Pretty Poor

Well, I just tested the updated 880 editor on an XP machine with no luck. It crashes as soon as you try to upload. I even got an "Cannot upload to MX810" error.
There is no place to download the older (WORKING) software, so I can no longer make changes to my customer's remotes.
I just talked my boss into putting 6 of these remotes in a customer's house. Why in the world am I promoting a product that the manufacturer is going to break on me?
This is the most pathetic nonsense imaginable. One untested update and a cheerleader is turned into a hater. I should have learned my lesson when a 950 update from 3 months ago started bricking all of our 950's.

There currently is an issue with any software based off of the MX-900. Which includes the 880, kp900, and tx1000. All of them are having similar issues with variables being lost.
I hope a fix is on it's way or at least in the works.

Uninstall the 880 editor, then redownload the editor and reinstall it but dont run an update until URC announces a fix.

Thanks mate. I'll give that a try.
The only thing that worries me is that when I downloaded the 880 program from the dealer site onto my wife's laptop, and tried to update it, it said "Already updated". So the .exe up there right now is already patched to the latest version.
I'm going to do a full wipe and re-install and start a new remote file and see if I can get something copied over.

I just purchased a MX-880 and cannot find the software on line. the URC website has programming available but does not list the MX-880 as an available model.
Where can i find the software?

From your dealer or if you are a dealer, from the URC control room.

I've been doing RTI for the last couple of years and a few of the entry level URC's for simple set ups. I've read about all of the URC complaints but still I recently decided to try the new MX880 because of the attractive screen and low price point. I must say it's disgusting that I can't even get the software to connect to two remotes and tech support guy just transferred me to service without letting me know he was going to do so.
Any secret to getting the software to recognize or should I toss this product for good? What a joke!

Mac with Parallels running XP. Latest version of Parallels installed. On my Dell laptop with XP I get a message that keeps popping up "Incompatible system configuration [SCP-24]" when I start the program. I click on "OK" about fifty times before the program starts. When I try to download into the remote I get the message again and can't get rid of it.

I hate to point out the obvious, but a Mac running any configuration is not a Windows PC.
Yes, they tend to be very compatible, but in my experience, nothing emulates anything 100%. Ever. We're aware of the growing popularity of Macs, and when that popularity is to a point where it's profitable for us to develop for Mac, I imagine we will. Until then, we make no claims of Mac compatibility.
I am sorry to hear that you're unable to connect to our remotes on your Mac. I know that many people have accomplished what you're trying to do using other methods of emulation. I suggest also asking your question on URC Control Room, because there is a lot more URC-specific experience there. Perhaps between the two forums, you can find someone who has gotten MX-Editor to connect when you're running it on a Mac instead of a Windows PC.
Best regards, Dale

I have this EXACT same problem on my Dell laptop. I even wiped the hard drive and re-installed XP. I installed the service packs. Then I installed the MX880 editor.....SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. I can run the program in Safe Mode, but the resolution is so poor, I can't work with macros. I spoke to tech support. They did not have an answer. The guy I spoke with asked me send him an e-mail with the details of the problem. I did, but have not heard back. I even sent a followup e-mail with more details and asked for a response. So far nothing. I have posted in the Control Room. If I can't get this resolved, I can't do 880's. On October 22, 2008 at 19:12, mrtristan said...
