Again, I'm at the end of my information supply with the MX-450. If there's any new news, it would probably be CEDIA before we'd hear anything.

Best regards,
Dale

Are you telling me that my idea of what hard buttons are
bad? If so please tell me what your idea of good hard
buttons would be.

Did you read the whole thread or are you assuming my stick
figure sketch is an attempt at visual and ergonomic design?
The stick figure sketch i spent all of 20 minutes on was
meant to be a visual aid while talking about the hard
buttons i would like to see on a hand held remote.

On a side note.. while i agree my sketch is ugly and cheap
looking.. AMX doesnt seem to think so. Looks pretty close
to what they have IMO:)

yes i'm saying that in my VERY humble and borderline worthless opinion your button layout is awful, and i personally HATE touchscreens so soft buttons are a must. the pic of those other remotes are all terrible looking, again, IMO of course.

in fact i think the 880 has ALMOST the perfect button layout. the only things i would change would be to switch PREV CHAN and MUTE (and i personally would prefer if PREV CHAN was a LIST button), switch PAUSE and STOP, switch INFO and EXIT (keeping in mind i'm a lefty), place the skip buttons right above the transport buttons much like the 900 (better to use them as page up/down in menus), and possibly replace LISTEN/WATCH with ACTIVITY/DEVICE.

while we're discussing the perfect remote, what really drew me to buy an H1 (i of course returned it due to the annoying TS and lack of programability) were the shape and layout of the transport buttons. the way Play and Pause are designed is just perfect imo.

and yes i did realize that was a quick sketch and was only to represent button layout and not size/shape etc.

You may still have misinterpreted him Stealth.

My sketch is meant for what hard buttons should be on
the remote.. Not what it should actually look like.. Hence
the stick figure sketch.

Imagine his remote sketch as a fancy list per say.

You took it back...lol. Congrats on returning from the dark side.

The sketch was not meant for button layout, it was meant to show what hard buttons i would like to see on the remote. They ended up where they were because of the order in which i added things. I did not spend 1 second worrying about button sizes, placement, anything. That stuff is left up to the ergo guys in the R&D department. I agree that the AMX remotes are awful. The only thing i liked was the ability to have buttons engraved.

The reason i like the touchscreen at the top vs. the hard button LCD combo is because i hate having 7 of 10 LCD buttons being empty because the client only needs 3 of 10. I also hate having to name things like Outside Lts because Outside Lights does not fit.

The reason i like hard buttons is probably the same as everyone elses, i can feel them and i dont have to look down every time.

The latest URC remotes are attempting to solve this by giving us a space to put graphics next to hard buttons buttons.

Yes! Why did they swap them in the first place.?

Yes! Why is this concept so hard for them?

I have the MX 450 and got through the basic set up but am struggling with the macros, I am assuming the macros are when one button on the remote controls several devices. i.e. watch tv cuts on audio, satellite and tv. Anyway, I need more dtailed instruction than came with the small owner's manual. Can anyone guide me through the steps on the macros? Thanks!

i've never programmed a 450 but would suggest you start your own thread, as the title on this thread doesnt really say what you're after.

all the best!

No. It only uses AA batteries, but you could always use rechargeable AAs.
