Yes, hard wired, in-wall, permanent solution. Start with KP900? Honestly, and I don't mean this in a smarta$$ way....I wouldn't. Color first of all (no more B&W!, customers want color!). It's way far off from what we're talking about in my opinion..... A color in-wall would be very nice. It needs to be wired so battery issues do not come to the forefront. I'd vote for a touchscreen so it can be configured more completely. A 980 based in-wall would be a fun place to start. I think the KP900 is perfect like it is. Having color backgrounds with b/w text was the right choice, else you guys would be moaning about replacing batteries every few weeks.

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions. |

On the subject of internet sales, 200 miles and US only.
The MX-450 looks like the ideal second remote for my bedroom and conservatory. Could someone help me with where I can purchase these in Scotland ?
I'd previously purchased my MX-700 online, but obviously cannot go that route anymore.
There are no dealers as far as I am aware at all in my country, so would be willing to import from the US, but don't believe this is possible ?
Thanks, Roy.

If any hand remote manufacturers are listening... Do you want to have the best handheld remote ever? If so... do what i say..:)
Take the RTI T-2C, replace the power button with a Prev Chan button and maybe make it a little thinner.
Or...
Take any of the last few PC programmables from URC and lose the ON-OFF buttons.
Thats it..easy huh?
All of your 1 button (DVD-CD-CABLE) start up commands on the touchscreen home page. Your OFF button on the home page or you can put one on each source page and have it jump back to the home page.
Finally.. i understand the Activity Based Watch Listen stuff but do we really need it? How many people need to be asked if they want to watch tv or listen to am/fm? Am i missing something? Another reason for activity buttons im not aware of?

And Dale, if you're still listening....the below would be ULTRA COOL!
1 - If your processors and remotes could actually handle strings... we, as programmers, could really do some cool stuff and become MUCH MUCH MUCH more efficient!!!! This would eliminate us from having to create multiple user variables (flags in RTI speak). For example.....for a remote that is to be shared between rooms, you have to create a variable for each room. Or when you want to track which input an AV Rcvr is on, you have to create a variable for each input and then set EACH of them true and false. With strings, you could say create a SINGLE string called "room". Then throughout all of the macros and stuff, you could clear the string when needed, assign it to whatever when needed and test it for whatever when needed. Ex....string "room" = "kitchen". User moves to Patio - string "room" = "patio". And your if or test statements would be like 'if string "room" = "patio", do xyz, etc'. AV input would work the same way. This would be a HUGE improvement in the programming of your systems. As it is now (and with RTI), we have to create variables/flags, set EACH one to either true/1 or false/0. Ex...Kitchen is true, so patio, master bedroom, master bathroom, living room are all false (and ALL of them have to be manually set that way....EACH TIME!!! Too MUCH work! And you could also use if or test results to set the string to something (or clear it). If xyz, then set string to "abc", else set it to "def".
2 - Have your processors and remotes be able to multitask.....at least two processes simultaneously. This would allow for the following: allow a macro to stop a currently executing macro, which could come in very handy in a lot of scenarios; In "ON" macros with long boot up times for TVs and AV Rcvrs, you could turn on the TV (which w/ some you have to wait up to 14 seconds before you can send input commands) and start counting to 14 and at the same time, kick on your AV rcvr (which has a 6 second delay, for example, before you can send an input command). Being able to kick both of these off at the same time (and start counting to 14 and 6 respectively at the same time) could potentially shave 6 seconds off of the total macro execution time. Ie....what used to take 20 seconds now takes 14. AND...you could start a 3rd macro 7 seconds into the 14 second for the TV......this would be nice!!! And there are some other examples of what this could allow, but I can't think of them right now.....
Thanks for listening.....

I can't comment on product direction, but instead of just not saying anything, I wanted to at least say that I can't say anything. I guess that, like most companies, we're probably taking care to grow cautiously in this economy. Look at Nintendo with the Wii: they know for certain they could sell twice as many of them, but they're not ramping up production to do so. Why? Because it's impossible to say where the cut-off is, where a production run ends up burning profit instead of making it. They'd rather leave a little money on the table than take the risk of throwing a little money down the hopper.
Best regards, Dale Dale, one more comment.... (and meant with all due respect too).... But when I look at your major competitor......they are BLOWING your doors off with new products, expansions, options, capabilities, etc. In the long run, this isn't good for the company either. I understand it's a fine line the company has to walk....but from an outsider's and customer's viewpoint.....URC is getting left behind honestly. And I personally hate to see that because I actually see a HUGE (positive) difference in the quality, stability and reliability of product coming out of URC compared to your major competitor. I'm a huge fan in other words.....just worried you guys won't keep up in the near to mid-term future........ Again, thanks for listening....

A suggestion - it would be really helpful for using Media Center if the number keys had the the phone style letters on the keys. EG 1 has ABC, 2 has DEF etc.

Would that be a hard-wired in-wall solution? Removable from an in-wall dock? If you could start with a KP900, what would you do with it? Color, touch screen or side buttons? And when all is said and done, targeted retail? If URC did have a hard wired in wall control solution, I know that I would pre-wire more than likely 2 locations for free in all of the builders homes that still just use volume Controls for house audio. It would be an easy sale / upgrade for sure. Has to be color, black and white would not cut it. Touch screen and hard buttons for major functions / not WATCH / LISTEN Hard buttons could be changed out with other supplied buttons, don’t have to go nuts Just give us some options. A in wall MX 300 for retail $ 800 max would be a great start.

beautiful new units!! i would buy an 880 right now if it had a cradle. i'm not sure why there is any issue of using the remote while its charging in said cradle as i can do it with my 980, aswell as with my previous Nevo SL (although the Harmony One was not able to function while charging). i actually like the form factor and layout of the 450 better than any unit i've seen (the FF and RR could definately be more prominent mind you), but needless to say i'm not prepared to take such a step down in programming ability.
while we're throwing requests for future remotes/functions out there, it would be nice if the IR range was widened so it shoots from the bottom of the remote also, eliminating the need to point it. i find my PVR is finicky so i have to remove the 980 from the cradle when operating it in order to point it at the device, its also just more comfortable and ergonomical to fire commands with the remote pointed straight up IMO.

Use a MRF260. i've considered that, but given none of my equipment is out of IR range it seems like overkill. not to mention i find my gear aesthetically pleasing and have no desire for any sticky's on the front of any units. nor is there a sure fire spot in my small den for an IR blaster (if i'm not mistaken that would be the only other option instead of emitters stuck to the fronts).

I know that your display and AVR have RS-232 control capabilities. Which is waay overkill if you feel an RF extender would be. Your amp could just be triggered by the AVR, (which it probably already is anyway). The other stuff I'm not familar with. I don't want to take the thread off topic, so shoot me a PM if you're truly looking for options.

The shadowing on the 39¢ sells it for me. Sign me up...
:)
Seriously though... why the alphabet with the number buttons? Web browsing or texting with the 2-way? .....maybe a smart title search with a video server?

The alphabet ended up on it because i had a DirecTV remote sitting in front of me :). Also because someone mentioned using them for media center and i know XBOX has them. Web Browsing/Texting are good ideas that i didnt think of. My goal with this remote is to have everything thats normally used on most products as hard buttons and the touchscreen for the odd ball stuff. No POWER hard buttons of any kind because it just confuses customers. Every time i use URC i get asked "what is the power on button for?". Every time i use RTI i get asked "wheres the previous channel button?" or "Does power turn it on or off?". And for goodness sakes its 2008... why cant i have volume feedback & be able to browse my itunes collection ? Click Me - About half way down the page you will see my "review" of the MLX-2. This is the most rediculous product i have seen them come out with in a long time. I would rather have a TPMC-10. If you start at the top i have a touchscreen. Then i have arrows left and right and a home button. These arrows are meant to scroll pages and the home button takes you home just like the RTI T2-C. Guide/Info/Menu/Exit Are on DirecTV and Comcast Remotes. DISH Network has CANCEL instead of Exit but i dont do much DISH so i dont care about Cancel :) Channel up/Channel down/jump & volume up down and mute should be on every universal remote IMO. The DVR buttons work for DISH & DirecTV and Comcast uses all but skip forward unless your using the 30 second skip code that they had motorola take off the remote that only us sneaky CI types know about. I have space for a play/pause button (ipod -roku) under the record button but i didnt think about it till after. The Numbers have the letters for the reasons i talked about above. The DASH key will be used for the OTA locals and the Enter Key is a no brainer. I put the star key under the DASH and the pound key under Enter because it makes sense to me. Some universal remotes have the +10 button that i myself, have never used. I have been doing URC & now RTI for a long time. I know exactly what gets used and what doesnt. I read up on a new Crestron handheld last week that made me angry. The latest greatest from them looks like its a universal that ships with a $500 AV Receiver. The "HI RES" photo of it shows that the photographer didnt bother to dust the glossy finish before taking the pic. Done ranting :)
