I saw a Nyko for $17 and that seemed a whole lot easier than going the IR4PS3 route.

Easier? Maybe... but you'll get a lot less control.

If I'm just wanting to control a DVD, then how much control do I need? I know this sounds like a basic question, but I don't think I'm using more than the "standard" movie watching buttons on my existing PS3 remote.

What do you use that you couldn't live without - and therefore would not choose the Nyko. (Maybe I'd miss the pop up menu button).

Yeah, that's a good feature to have...

As a NetFlix user, I'm likely removing the DVD from the PS3 immediately after viewing so I can send it back right away. While I'm at the unit, I can press the off switch myself. Not as elegant of a solution, I'll agree with you there!

I've used both. The Nyko is a bit cheaper, but the IR4PS3 supports all of the commands I have used (including on/off) and is a bit quicker to respond. Highly recommended.

I ordered the Nyko. As for "a bit cheaper," it was $16.99 from Amazon.com. And shipping was free because I hit the $25 order limit (on total order). If it is slower as you say, I'll be interested to see how I feel about that.

Still, as far as I could tell from posts and reading around the internet, the Nyko is much less geeky, more immediately usable (not a kit), cheaper, and easier to use. Maybe not as sexy or elegant, but for my intended use, seemed like the right decision.

If not, then I'll update my post by eating crow!

Cheers all... Guy

Yes, please keep us posted. I tried one of those for a client about 8 months ago. It was sent back to Amazon the same day.

I had bought the Nyko and it got returned after 3 days... it was real quirky and just didnt feel like a seamless integration. I just got my hands on the IR4PS3 last week and im in love with it. Its very responsive. I'm using it on an mx-900 and once I got daniel's file to work it was a piece of cake to program.

Also, the

I bought a Nyko unit one year ago and all is perfect, all beit without the power command. My installer learned the codes and input them into the MX-900 and it has been flawless ever since. For under twenty bucks I can't complain. My kids leave the PS3 on most times so they don't care, I end up having to turn it off because I hear the fan going or I see the blue light. Is the IR4PS3 a difficult solution to setup for an end user?

I don't own one, but without a doubt I'd say not at all. Should be very easy. Just put the new codes into the MX-900 (or ask your installer to), plug the IR2BT in, and voila.

The Nyko's a great solution for the price. I've got both and I'm much happier with the IR2BT. Much cleaner being able to keep everything hidden and being able to include On/Off in the macros is the best. Once they get production up on the IR2BT, it will be a great addition to an install.

I have an extra IR2BT with power supply and USB cable, we ended up using a IR4PS3 unit.

We just got the IR4PS3 quicker and needed one asap for a job

on the nyko unit it only works when the PS3 is on. The PS3 Usb ports go dead when power is off

I'm back to report that the Nyko was a great and cost effective solution for me! It was $16.99 delivered, and having learned the commands into my MX-810, everything works flawlessly.

The functionality is pretty basic, right, but that's all I need for DVDs. I also have my factory PS3 remote if I need it - but after several weeks, I have not found a reason to take it out of the media closet.

Yes, the on/off switch would be nice. If you think you'll miss that, then go with the IR4PS3. For me, it's no big deal, at all. As I said earlier in the thread, at the end of the night I'm ejecting my DVD anyway, so I just turn off the PS3 at the base.
