Can the people here having the rs232 ramp/repeat issue post what version their MSC400 is? On the small sticker on the bottom, I have IB190307 as the first part of the s/n. I think this means my unit was made in 3/2007.

My guess is URC knows about this issue, it's hardware related, and URC has no way to fix our units. If it was just a simple bug in the software, it would have been fixed by now :(

If anyone knows if this is fixed on the newer revisions of the MSC400, please chime in.

From my phone conversation with URC tech support a few months back regarding this issue:

URC knows of the problem.

The work around is to create 2 smart macros.  One that repeats the command, and one that does not.  You then assign both smart macros to a push and hold macro on your remote.  Short press = non-repeating command, press and hold = repeating command.

URC feels that since they have a work around, there is no need to fix the actual problem.

I just hope this issue is fixed with the MRX10.

Thanks Duct Tape, since you seem very knowledgeable, another issue I'm having is that if I follow the reference guide to test everything in hyperterminal, I find that triggers don't always result in an rs232 command being sent. It seems like it drops 1/5 rs232 commands.

Any ideas? I've tried two MSC-400 units from the same year and both do it, even if I start from scratch with a new file after resetting the units.

PS: Using a couple of the MX-900's with the MSC-400.

the only time I've had that kind of thing happen, it ended up being an issue with the placement of the RFX250 antenna.  It was getting interference.  If you look at the status light on it, and it is glowing or blinking when you are not pressing a button, then you are getting interference.  I would check that.

I've checked the red light before and it was off. I moved the RFX-250 anyway. It's not the issue as I've tried using two MSC-400/RFX-250's, but they are both from 2006-2007. I've tried new files after complete resets, making a new RS232 cable and observing ascii output in hyperterminal. The blue light on the MSC-400 always comes on so I think it's receiving the signal during the misfires.

I'm very surprised to hear your RS232 buttons are 100% reliable. If you make a custom RS232 command, build a smart macro, tie it to a button and press the same button 20 times, the command is always sent?

yep, I control DirecTV and Media PCs with RS232 all the time. i can't say that I have noticed any issues.  I will test again on the current project i'm working on.  maybe I just never realized that it was misfiring.

Thanks Duct Tape. Basically, the RS232 command drop only occurs if I press the same button over and over, sending the same trigger to the MSC-400 over and over. This gives a consistent 2/10 failures.

If I alternate button presses as I make 70 fast button presses, RS232 commands work with only 1/70 failures. If I use a toggle variable and toggle two different smart macros that send the same RS232 text, I maintain 1/70 failures.

I'm not sure if the issue is MX-900 specific or not, but I have two MX-900's and they both do the same thing. I can repeat these results on both remotes on any button!?!
