Yes the matrix is being controlled via 232. That series has adjustable preamp volume levels per zone or via salvo to all.

I see it's a bit more than switcher then :-)
Are you positive that two vol+/- commands are not being sent when you press the button briefly? It's not a huge deal in this case (volume control). It's navigation features that make it nearly broken.
And yes I maintain that it's an MSC-400 bug. Maybe some units out there are defective?
In my communications URC never denied there was a bug btw. They just don't seem in any hurry to fix it - unacceptable IMHO.

Right, it is. Basically an audio video matrix with preamp controls per zone.
Yes, positive. Volume + = 1 step, press and hold = full ramp with quick cessation.
What devices with navigation are you controlling via serial commands? How do these devices react via an IR emitter out of the msc? How do they react via IR line of sight from the handheld remote?

I have an XA2 HD DVD player, and a RadianceXD (video processor). I have a projector I'm just installing, I will try the same thing
Both exhibit the exact same behavior. They work perfectly fine with IR. The RS232 commands work as well, except when you check the repeat check box. Then any brief click sends two commands.
I don't see how this can be anything but either 1) a malfunctioning unit or 2) a software bug.
As to why it works in your case, I don't know. You're the first one reporting success with this functionality.

Well good luck keep us posted. IMO you hear more about problems than good results so I'm sure we're not the only one with success.

If others have had success with this, please chime in as well. I'd really like to get to the bottom of this. Maybe we (the folks who found the problem) have defective units? In this case they need to be replaced.
Either way it'd be nice to know.

Been having the same issue with the last 10 MSC-400 we installed (or every one of them since we started to use serial control for volume.) Going back to IR. I also agree it's a bug. Spent hours on it coming up with a workaround to no avail. Pretty dissipointed with URC about that. Posted about the same issue in the control room and never got a response back.

Anyone from URC cares to comment?

I called Tech Support about this and talked to a lady that explained to me that the issue relates to the touchscreen in the remote control itself. I t has something to do with the operating system too, i think. I had the problems with Denon receivers and Lutron Lighting Systems. I solved the problem by using IR and RS232 on the deon receivers, and when using Radio Ra, use the IR interface. This will eliminate having to atempt RS232 ramping. I also had this problem with teh 1st and second generation Xantech RS232 Controller. Same Issue. It would be nice to see a fixe, but I wonder is it something that can be fixed, or will the MX6000 fix the problem and the MX3000 will slowly die off. Remember the MX3000 has been in production since 2003-2004. It is time for an upgrade.

"The issue relates to the touchscreen..."
You seem to be assuming everyone's using an MX-3000. That's not the case. I use the MSC with an MX-900. This issue has nothing to do with the remote. It's a bug in the MSC, I'm not sure what tech support was talking about.
Could you explain your workaround in more detail? I had a hard time following your explanation.

I am experiencing the same issue with the MX-980. When I talked to tech support two months ago they said they didn't know anything about the isssue even though it been talked about on the boards for some time. Lets keep topic on the top of list until we get a response from URC!

URC - what a bunch of crock. They've obviously had tons of people calling them with this issue, and each time they say they don't know anything about it.
Nice.

It would be reassuring to know URC is aware of our frustration and that they are working on solving the problem.
Is anyone from URC listening?

I'm pretty sure URC knows of the issues. Several of the reps, techs, and trainers have been made aware of the issues awhile back. The problem is, they aren't the ones that can fix this - it's the engineers/programmers. And they (as history has shown) are very slow to get anything done for URC (sometimes never).
Personnally if I was running the company... and everytime we launched a product, it always had bugs that took forever to work out (and sometimes never). After years of this, I would 'fire' a bunch of engineer/programmers and start again - obviously they're not very good.
