Initial internet research yields a number of products that appear available for controlling iTunes running under Windows (XP) in a separate room from the A/V gear (i.e. RF as opposed to IR). Anyone have any experience, suggestions, warnings, etc. to particular ones for control via MX3000 with or without a URC RFX/MRF modules? In addition to play/stop/rew/ff it would be nice if one could also choose or toggle playlists.

thanks!

What device are you looking to use to access the iTunes on the PC? The appleTV is cheap, reliable and has a slick gui. It can be controlled from the URC remote via RF - IR or IR direct no problem.

Thanks for the heads up on this unit. Picked one up the other day. Experienced a little trouble getting it to install correctly. While it initially "appeared" under the Devices in iTunes (running on XP), it then vanished and could not communicate with the AppleTV. Also, I selected the AppleTV option to check for and install updates. It appeared to download new software, but then hung on the update for over two hours. I finally resorted to rebooting the AppleTV by power-cycling the thing. I gather that one may either sync the iTunes library from the PC onto the AppleTV (thereby removing any dependency that the PC is up and running iTunes) -OR- let AppleTV "control" iTunes remotely, but it hasn't been entirely clear how to achieve the latter. The interface sure is sweet. Hopefully this will do the trick. Thanks again.

You either sync (copy) data from itunes to the appletv hard drive and then itunes can be closed AND/OR you can stream via an open itunes account AND/OR you can purchase itunes direct from the appletv. For 329...one of the coolest products that's been out in a while.

I don't anticipate much movie rental. My application is mostly music so I purchased the smaller (40GB) model. At just a little over $200, it was a slam dunk.
