i was wondering if urc has put out any kind of walk through or tutorial for the MX-980?

Well, that's a 14 page mini-tutorial, but it doesn't cover many aspects of the 980 like Please Wait macros, press and hold changing graphics, etc.

Try reading through the manual for the MX-900 and MX-3000 as well. The principles are the same.

Check the files area of this website.
