I've read all the posts. Downloaded everything in every possible order with and without the remote hooked up and still no sync. Device manager shows the remote as a mobile device so the driver should be OK. WMDC doesn't see the remote when attached. Any step by step instruction available? Seems like most just hack around until it works but I've tried that for days! I'm getting used to VISTA so don't want to go back to XP.

Any help would be appreciated.

On my computer:

With no URC software running (and none having been run since the last power-up), when I plug in the remote it shows up in the device manager under mobile devices as a "URC USB Sync MX" device. Then when I start the MX-980 editor, I can communicate with it fine. If I plug it in after I start the software it usually does not communicate.

If yours does not show up this way, I suggest you "Update Driver" from the device manager and choose the driver in the URC folder (MX-980 Editor>usb>Windows Vista 86 or Windows 64).

I'm running Vista 32 bit Ultimate (as another data point).

I tried your method without success. My mobile device was also "URC USB Sync MX". When I tried to update the driver I would get a message saying that the proper driver was already installed. So I just uninstalled the device. Disconnected the remote then reconnected it so that it would be found. When asked about a driver I pointed to the MX-980 Editor>usb>Windows Vista 86 and it installed the correct driver. Same name but VISTA must have a driver that it thinks is rightl. All is working now.

Thanks for the help.

How come I dont have this folder called "MX-980 Editor" which is suppose to have all these >usb>Windows Vista 86 sub-folders? I have a folder called "Universal Remote Control Inc" and in that folder I have my 980 Editor which I can open and use, but does not sync with my Vista 32bit. I guess I have to start by knowing where and how to get these sub folders. Help.

You have it, you're just not looking in the right place. I've never used Vista, but I assume the files are located in the same place as they are on XP. Start by going to "My Computer" and clicking on your OS drive (most likely your C drive). Navigate to Program Files -> Universal Remote Control, Inc -> MX-980 Editor -> USB -> Windows Vista x86. This is the folder you want to point to when installing the driver.

Try running the MX 980 editor as an "administrator". Right click the editor program icon. Click on "properties", then click on the "compatibility" tab. Then check the radio button for "Run this program as administrator".
