This one has me stumped. I had a good working MX-3000 program. I started adding a new device. During adding the device, the test functions and the emulator ceased controlling the devices - even on the old devices that were already programmed. I soon found that it only worked from about a foot away from the device instead of the usual 7.
Ive changed the battery with a brand new one. Ive plugged the charger in different outlets. I tried creating a new device and learned only one function and it did the same. I did total reset and set to factory defaults and tried all the above again.
Is there anything I could have changed in the programming to cause this? Even after reset to defaults? Could the IR function have just bit the dust?
Any help would be appreciated!

yes the remote could bit the dust, someone may have droped it. I would check and see if the i/r has been set to rf before I call tech support. If you have a camera phone you can check the i/r out put, this may show if the i/r is working. I would load any of the preprogramed codes to test this.

Thanks for the response Lee. I know it wasnt dropped but please, I'm not familiar with "check to see if the IR is set to RF". How do I do that?

in the mx editor goto the program tab then click on the RF control and see if the IR is on.

It would not work the unit at all if it was set to only RF. Sounds more likely that one of the LED's has died. This can be checked with any camera by looking at the LED's and pushing a button on the remote. You will see the LED's light up when looking through the camera viewfinder.

Can I use this in the RF mode without much effort. I do have the receiver but never used it. I guess I'll have to start reading the manuals again.
Can anything else done by programming have done this? I see MRSTEED has the same problem. I cant believe it just died while I was adding a new device.

With my MX-950 I tried the camera trick and didn't see any led's light up. I tried re-loading older software and still nothing. I called Universal and explained everything and the guy said this has happened with other models but not common with the 950. I'm pretty sure its the remote and not a software issue and I'm going to return mine. Good luck.

There should be two. One on each side of the USB port.

I just re-tried the camera trick on my broken 950 and this time I saw only one dim light on the left side, so since there's supposed to be two lights, mine has definitely bit the dust.

Yes there are also two IR lights on the MX-950. If you guys want to dump them let me know. I can repair them.
