Darn, that's a bummer. Everything else with RS-232 works so well with my AMX, it's hard to believe that this is thing that I'd get stuck on. I would say let's just use IR for turning the TV back on, but then you have to wonder why not just use IR for everything.
One idea I had was to switch the TV into it's VGA input which automatically goes to sleep (pretty much right away) if there's no signal (like a computer monitor if the computer is not on). The TV's red led just flashes. I'm going to measure it with a current meter to see how much it draws. If it's pretty much the same current draw as the TV being completely off, I might just go down this route. Even if I plan to use a VGA source, I could just tell the VGA switcher to switch to an unused input when the power-off macro runs to make sure the TV sees no input.
Anyone tried this?
