Yes it is very critical , so critical that Satellite Operators use this principle to reuse the same bandwith or set of frecuencies on the Satellite. It is called polarization of the signal , in OTA TV signals either VHF or UHF they use horizontal polarization, it means that the Transmitting Antenna is oriented horizontally therefore you should locate your antenna the same way , horizontally.
