Have you downloaded and installed Windows Mobile Device Center? I have an MC-980 working flawlessly with WMDC on Win7. The original issue with the 980 and 3000 was the lack of ActiveSync on Vista that was eventually resolved by using WMDC. The same solution works for Win7.
