I did once meet Chubby Checker on a flight once. He was travelling around with his entourage, doing smallish shows at Leagues Clubs and the like.
He was really cool. I asked him for an autograph to be made out to my old man. He said "Sure, what's his name?" I told him and he then said "What's your name?", I said "Rob, but just make it out to him". He said nothing and continued to write. He folded the piece of paper in half and handed it back to me. We continued to chat for a while, then I went back to work (I was the Purser on the flight).
It wasn't until I got back there that I read what he wrote. It said,
"Hi Dennis,
Rob loves you very much!
All the best,
Chubby Checker... ...Oh Yeah!"
I thought that was awesome. So different to the usual things that people write. He watched me read it and gave me a big grin and an wink when I looked back at him.
