I had same trouble !!, but finally got it work with serial cable. I wasn't connected to the Internet at first, so got online to do some research and ran Software Update then try to connect to MX-850, then all of sudden it started working thru the serial cable it came with ???? But now I am having troubles with using MX-850 with MRF-350 receiver which i will be posting Questions for.
