I have the RU950 but essentially the same. I also have a Panasonic Viera LCD 32". I have learnt the power toggle but then set the duration to 0.7 and this will turn on the TV without holding down the button.

What I have done though for power ON is the use the "1" button with a duration of .7 and this will not toggle the TV off if it is on.

So the answer to your question is "Yes it will work. However as for the TV, I am extremely dissapointed so for to not be able to get any discrete commands working!
