Microsoft has been developing something like this for a few years but no workable product yet: it is based on a variant of the tablet PC which communicates with a server to process and send out commands: I will post the link if I can find it

a tablet PC does not have an IR output and is larger than the iPronto

bottom line is the iPronto is the most advanced form of tablet PC designed for this application and probably your best bet at this time

while it is a big disappoint for now, I have to believe Phillips will eventually get it right:
