I have a Belkin B and G router which is set to mixed mode, and my iPronto has the latest firmware, and I have not experienced that problem. Not sure that your problem is down to this, although maybe different machines behave differently. Maybe try forcing a firmware update again, in case something didn't update correctly last time? It's got to be worth a try before you give up 802.11g access speeds on your network.
