You bring up an interesting point, Edmund. In the (very)
old days of DirecTV I had a Sony SAT-A4 receiver that
would work with RF. It's problem was that if your neighbor
had one you could both be controlling each other's receivers.
It (RF) proved to be worthless because in fact my neighbor
had the same receiver.

So is RF control of the HR20 and H20 linked to one specific
receiver and incapable of even accidentally controlling
another receiver nearby? How (in simple terms) are they
doing that? My curious mind wants to know.

Thanks

Yes, you marry the remote to a particular receiver by using the receivers unique receiver id #, the 6 digits of it.

You can marry one remote to more then one RF receiver, upto 3 on the white remotes, by marrying it to particular device key on the white remote.
