The first remote I remember seeing, was in 1978ish at a friends house. He had a brand new sony betamax toploading VCR. The remote was hardwired, and about 20' long. He lived in a trailer park full of good neighbors and friends. There was an ongoing line of people "just stopping by" to see the new device and be amazed at it's remote control convenience.
