Here's an interesting tidbit I found after wiping the program out. All that comes up is a screen that says "PROGRAM LOADING" for downloading a replacement program from the PC. However, on that screen it also says you can adjust the contrast with the channel keys (why this is so important I'm not sure). But you know what? On that screen full contrast range is possible(as opposed to only half-range after the program is loaded).

The main problem with the screen itself is that black isn't quite "black" enough (a bit less contrast than the original Pronto). As such, the screen without backlight is readable in direct lighting, but not as well in subdued indirect lighting. The backlightinig is equal in terms of brightness to that of the Pronto, and very similar in color. It really does help. But personally, I wouldn't base my purchase decision on the screen. It's acceptable, if only the backlight could be a bit more integrated with it.
