Do a search here. It is not terribly rare but slightly common. I think static shock may be erasing the memory but this is only a theory as the only one I ever saw with this problem was from a customer with a velour couch on a dry day in the middle of winter and the client claimed that the remote shocked him before it died. I think he may have shocked themote is more like it.
