If you have a tv code programmed to the tv device, and when doing the 993 procedure above you pressed SELECT in the 4th step, the Yamaha volume will be punched through to ALL devices , including the tv device.

But, if you pressed VOL DOWN or UP in the 4th step, yes the yamaha volume will only work in that one device.
