I started with URC around 2004 when they were mostly text based remotes (MX700/800, etc) and maybe the MX3000 for color, but I never did one.

Did a ton of 850s but branched into RTI for people who wanted color in a wand remote.  The MX880 and 980 got us some color and by then all the RTI stuff was 100% failure rate.

When TC hit I went to 2 or 3 classes and bought several thousand dollars worth of demo gear.  Reading all the forums, it sounded nightmarish in those days, and I didn’t care to beta test it.  Sold off all the gear finally, and so CCP is all I’ve ever done.  I consider it tremendously reliable for single room systems, which is mostly what I do.  Updates don’t disable it, clients easily understand it, and failures are rare.

We all know that systems are put together way differently than they were 10 or 20 years ago. Universal remotes are only occasionally needed nowadays. I have gone from keeping 20 or 30 remotes in my storage unit to just the ones I carry on my truck for stock.

I think they are still a viable problem solver. I am quite sure they are not consumer remotes, purposely so that they do not have to provide tech-support for thousands of one off consumers that will never get any good at programming and will always need handholding.
