You are correct it is preference. We do not see the issues with the charge port as we have our own 880 charging stand that we give our customers with each refurbished 880 we provide. We also offer it as an accessory.

For those with charge port issues it is very easy to replace the port. I have probably only seen a handful that needed replacement though and we have a lot of spare ports. The 890 charger stand is definitely better though.

We do find the 880 easier to work on and refurbish that the 890, but again that is our experience. I think we are a little biased as you suggest towards the 880, 10 years of maintaining and refurbishing URC remotes will do that to you.
