The MX-890 was always very reliable, and never had any screen issues with it.  It is just as easy to program as the 880 as well as offered more advanced programming options.  I get you like the 880, and nothing wrong with that, as most people settle in with a favorite, but in just about every respect, I find the 890 to be superior and a decent upgrade over the 880.  I also think ergonomically it feels much better in the hand as well.  The 880 was a fine remote in its day, and still a good remote, but I believe the 890 is just better.
