I guess I'd be considered a Pro. I'm retried, but a few years back I got involved, on the side, in designing and consulting on audio video stuff, like home theaters. One of my hobbies is hi end audio. Several years back I put together a home theater for myself. A few friends asked for my help. As time rolled along, I found myself getting requests from people I never knew, so a side business began.
I used to do maybe a half dozen systems a years. Now I'm retired and bored, so I have a client who has asked me to do his house remodel with internet, phone and audio video. 6TVs total, including one Pioneer 60" FD141 monitor, 4 Sony XBR9s and one NX700. The Interior Designer expects to have the place in at least one magazine.
I work with contractors and interior designers, if necessary, to put together a full theater experience. Lighting, area design and presentation. I retired from the movie industry, as well as part time for a school system, taking care of Mac computers, so I have an unusual backgound. 50 years ago I was an ATT phone installer, but now I dont do any major installation myself and I try to stay away from the basic low end inexpensive HT stuff. Not into stuff like Crestron, but smaller easier to use non tech. I'd rather have my client buy a box for each room or add some inwall speakers with built in connectors to add a small in room specific system then do all the fancy stuff with big complicated gear. I'd rather have them get up and push a switch with a label on it, then not use it with a complicated remote setup.
I dont know everything, so I do my homework and ask alot of questions. If you want something with good hi end audio or at least better then your basic system, I'm your guy.
