USE GOOD BATTERIES TO GET LEARN TO WORK.
I wasn't using rechargeable, but was using cheap CVS store brand batteries. Switched them out and the learning worked on the first try. Now that I got this figured out.. I'm quite happy with the remote. Thanks for the help everyone.
