Graphics weren't the problem.  It's running the factory default.  Unless the factory got them wrong <grin>. 

For no apparent reason, this AM the remote is working normally.  Page transitions are workign fine.  I'm wondering if that little reset button doesn't do more than reboot it.  Not wanting to experiment but it's as if it was busy processign or doing something.  Today it was finished with whatever that was is my theory.
