According to the RC review the sunken channel and volume buttons on the URC-R50 was a drawback of the design. Appears thats not be the case on the 40 and that likely makes for a different experience. Addition of the four color hard buttons is better for cable boxes with A-D and blu ray players too, IMO. Im assuming the 40 has the same channel logo features on the lcd as the 50.
