It could be caused by a certain combination of data (digital joins, serial text, analog values, page-flips, etc.) being sent to the panel, in which case the method of programming certainly could make a difference.
However, that's pure speculation. I've never seen it happen, so I don't know - but, anything is possible :-)
The first step is to actually witness the event. Next, there needs to be a way to reliably duplicate it (cause the problem to happen). Once you can do that, a solution shouldn't be far away...
